How to make a lyric video
Seven steps from a song file to a finished video. Each step below shows what you'll see in the editor.
Step 1
Pick a video type
- On the Projects page, click New Project and enter the artist and song name.
- Choose Color Coded Lyrics, Line Distribution or Karaoke. All three share the same lyrics, members and timing, so you can switch later.
- Line Distribution and Karaoke are free to build and preview; exporting them needs Pro.
Step 2
Upload the song
- Drag your audio file onto the upload box, or click it to browse.
- Use a WAV or high-bitrate MP3, up to 100MB.
- When the waveform appears, click Next: Add Lyrics.
Step 3
Add the lyrics
- Paste the lyrics, one line per row, or import from a colorcodedlyrics.com link to bring in lyrics, translations and members in one go (your first import is free).
- Add translation rows with the language selector, typed by hand or filled in by AI Translation (Pro).
- Fix or remove any line in Review & Edit, then click Next: Add Members.
Step 4
Add the members
- Add each singer with a name and a color. Pick colors that are easy to tell apart.
- Upload a photo for each member if you want their picture in the video.
- Members appear left to right in this order, and their position is their number key while syncing.
Step 5
Sync and assign lines
- Press K to play. Tap Space as each line starts.
- Press 1–9 to give the current line to that member. ← → seek 5 seconds.
- Short on time? Click AI Timing to time every line automatically, then fine-tune. Turn on Group by singer to assign members part by part.
Step 6
Style it
- Choose fonts, text size and colors for the title, lyrics and member names.
- Set a background color or image, and an intro card theme.
- Everything updates in the preview as you change it.
Step 7
Export the video
- Pick a format: Landscape 16:9 for YouTube, Vertical 9:16 for Shorts, TikTok and Reels, or Square 1:1. Every format is on the free plan.
- Click Generate Video and keep the tab open while it renders in your browser.
- Download the finished video, and a thumbnail if you need one.
Troubleshooting & Browser Compatibility
colorcoded generates your video right inside your web browser, so a successful render depends on your browser and device. If your video won't generate, the answers below will help you fix it yourself.
